Language Centre

Language Centre – a language learning partner in the field of internal security.
The aim of the centre is to support the development of learners’ language skills to help them cope in their future workplaces.

At the centre, we teach Estonian, English, and Russian, and mostly focus on the development of professional language. A significant emphasis is put on Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL).

Promoting the language proficiency of the students and staff of the EASS and officials working in the internal security sector helps them succeed in their career. The content of language courses is based on learner feedback and employer needs. Learner-centred methods, including language coaching are applied the specific needs of today’s learners are taken into account.

Language Learning

In autumn 2025, the Language Centre of the Estonian Academy of Security Sciences started to implement a new language learning model focused on language coaching.
Language coaching offers a personalised approach to language learning, using coaching tools to achieve goals.

Language Centre Symposia

The Language Centre of the EASS held its first international symposium in 2021: “Creative and Innovative Language Teaching.” The aim of the symposium was to discuss modern language learning and share best practices and methods.
The tradition of international conferences by the Language Centre dates back to 2013, when the first international conference on CLIL was held. The following year, the focus was on traditional and innovative teaching methods. In 2015, the theme was multilingualism.
After a little break, the tradition was revived in 2019. A symposium was planned for March 2020, but it was postponed due to COVID. Finally, on the magical date of 12.02.2021, we met online.

The next Language Centre symposium will take place in spring 2026.

Terminology Work

The internal security terminology working group develops and supports terminology work in the fields of internal security and public safety. This includes police work, border guard operations, protection of constitutional order, rescue services, civil protection, public order, crisis preparedness, taxation and correctional work, as well as remote sensing and migration.
