Migration issue of the academic journal Security Spectrum is out now

The 24th issue of the academic journal Security Spectrum: Journal of Advanced Security Research is entitled Challenges to Security Arising from Migration: Exploring the Nexus Between Migration and Security.
The journal is dedicated to exploring the multidimensionality of migration and offers a critical and interdisciplinary analysis of its implications for international security.
The first quarter of the 21st century has witnessed significant labour and economic migration, and the resulting socio-political integration of migrant communities continues to be an issue of tension across Europe.
Today, migration is increasingly linked to security and is increasingly seen in a security context. The influx of refugees into Europe during and after the conflicts in Africa and the Middle East, and the subsequent crises, has highlighted the vulnerability of European border management and tested the resilience of EU solidarity. Illegal migration is often linked to concerns about terrorism, international crime and social unrest, although these links are not directly expressed at the same level of quantification. The resulting securitisation of migration has led to tightening border controls and surveillance measures, while raising critical questions about the ethical dimensions of human rights and security policy. In economic terms, migration remains a double-edged sword. On the one hand, it alleviates labour shortages, supports an ageing population and fosters innovation through cultural exchange and diversity. On the other hand, uncontrolled migration can strain public resources, exacerbate wage competition and fuel anti-immigration sentiment. The challenge is therefore how to harness the potential of migration to boost economic growth, while addressing the socio-economic inequalities that often underpin migration flows and providing security for communities and societies.
