Häli Allas starts as the director of Rescue College

As of March 25, the new director of the Rescue College of the Estonian Academy of Security Sciences (EASS) is Häli Allas who has a long history with the academy as an advisor of the Ministry of the Interior, a lecturer and an alumna.

 

 

Häli graduated from EASS in 2003 and defended her Master’s thesis in public administration at Tallinn University of Technology in 2006. In the past 13 years, she worked at the Rescue Board leading the rescue work department.

Rector Marek Link selected among Tallinn University alumni of the century

Rector of the Academy of Security Sciences Marek Link was selected among the alumni of the century of Tallinn University along the university’s 100th anniversary celebrations.

 

On Monday 18 March, Tallinn University celebrated their centenary – it was 100 years ago that regular teacher training was begun in Tallinn forming the basis for both educational innovation and the promotion of intelligent lifestyle. In connection with the celebrations, Tallinn University acknowledged its outstanding alumni who have contributed to the development of the Estonian society, culture, education and entrepreneurship. Our rector Marek Link was among those 100 alumni.

The Financial College becomes a member of International Network of Customs Universities

As a result of a long application process, the Financial College of the Estonian Academy of Security Sciences became a member of the International Network of Customs Universities INCU.

 

The aim of the network is to raise the academic profile of the customs profession through the development and promotion of educational programs. The awareness of the speciality of customs is developed through various academic and applied research studies. The activities of the network provide customs agencies with intellectual input while the mutual cooperation between the researchers and practitioners contributes to the development of either field.

New building of the Academy of Security Sciences opened on 22 February

On Friday, 22 February 2019, the new study building of the Estonian Academy of Security Sciences (EASS) was opened at the border of Maarjamäe and Pirita-Kose in Tallinn.

The event also included the inauguration ceremony of the new rector Marek Link. The opening ceremony was preceded by the traditional Estonian Independence Day parade formation where the students and employees of the academy were greeted by the Prime Minister Jüri Ratas, Minister of the Interior Katri Raik, Minister of Justice Urmas Reinsalu and the leaders of internal security agencies.

UN disaster team training at the Rescue College was a success

United Nations top specialists succeeded in passing the UN Disaster Assessment and Coordination refresher course for teams (UNDAC Refresher Course) conducted at the Rescue College of the Estonian Academy of Security Sciences.

 

«The course went very well both for the organisers and participants. Everything went smoothly and feedback on the content and organisation was very positive,» said Vadim Ivanov, deputy director of the Rescue College.

The Estonian Academy of Security Sciences honoured its first student world champion Andra Aho

Students of the Estonian Academy of Security Sciences have previously become world champions and won medals at other championships, but Andra Aho is the first student in the history of the Academy who has become a champion at the World University Championships.

In the summer, Andra Aho, a student at the College of Justice, won a gold medal at the muaythai World University Championships. At the official opening of the academic year, Andra was congratulated by Andres Anvelt, the Minister of the Interior. Among the congratulators there were also Katri Raik (rector of the Academy), Ants Veetõusme (president of the Estonian Academic Sports Federation), Priit Kama (head of the prison service) and many other. Andra’s coach Kevin Renno was also acknowledged.

Top level specialists of UN disaster assessment gather at the Rescue College

From 26 to 31 August the Rescue College of the EASS holds a UN Disaster Assessment and Coordination refresher course (UNDAC Refresher Course). Participants will be of top level UN specialists from around the world.

The UNDAC refresher course is one of the main elements of the UN strategy for training its specialists. It helps to harmonise the content and quality of the work methods applied by the experts of different regions, and to plan and manage team work better. The aims of the course are to practice more efficient responding to potential disaster situation and to increase the UNDAC members’ and UNDAC support team’s capability to fulfil the set tasks. There will be 70 participants from seven international organisations and 17 different countries taking part in the course.
